The Roar has always been good at recruiting members with different backgrounds and different perspectives. We recognize that no change will be made within our school if everyone on our staff thought the same and brought the same ideas to the table and were never challenged.
Diversity on Coverage:
To make sure we are balancing our coverage, I have four spreadsheets with each grade and we keep track of who is covered in the five major categories: Featured, pictured, mentioned, quoted, video/podcast. We use this to make sure we aren't covering the same people and covering all grades.
Diversity of opinions:
We make sure all stories are told from all angles and various opinions. We recognize everyone in the student body has different view points and our writing needs to reflect that in order to be fair and unbiased.
